Eleven Years Later
Keera
“Congratulations on your twins,” I exclaimed, handing one of the
babies to Tiana, a new omega mother at Howl’s Honor Hospital.
The nurse settled the second baby over the young mother’s chest. The joy
on her face and all of her alphas’ faces were palpable as they gazed upon
the squirming bundles.

As the nurses cleaned up the afterbirth, I washed my hands and pulled
out my clipboard. My heart hurt as I gazed at the alphas’ love and
admiration for their omega female who had given birth.
I wish I had an alpha pack who cared about me.
But I knew it would never happen with a father like mine. I was doomed
to be alone.
Sighing, I blew a piece of my hair away from my face that escaped my
hairnet as I jotted down the babies’ time of birth, weight, and necessary
information to register them. Every baby was registered, especially if an
omega was born. Omegas were discernable with the wolf claw mark on
their right shoulder, and they were rare. I was an omega myself.
As I wrote, my eyes blurred. My strength was sapped.
“We got it, Dr. Keera,” said Jade, taking my clipboard with her chubby
hands. She was a fellow omega and one of my nurses under my charge.
“You go and get some rest. You look like you’re about to faint after this
nightlong birth.”
“Thanks, Jade,” I said, grateful as I let her take the clipboard. “I think it’s
time I grab a snack.”
She nodded as she filled in the rest of the information, her eyebrows
furrowed. I looked back once last time, seeing the new family huddled
around the babies. I always thought I’d get used to it, but it hurt.
Every time.
There was probably something wrong with me. No normal person would
be upset seeing a happy family like that.
As I walked down the sterile white halls, I passed by several curtained
rooms with omega females screaming or cursing while giving birth. Three
females in labor were on this floor, and two overworked doctors were
rushing about. They needed to hire more doctors.
I was about ready to pass out. I needed food now before going home
because who knew when I would get food next. I removed my bloody
scrubs, throwing them into a large bucket.
Walking into the break room, I groaned upon seeing Tim, my beta
coworker who was obsessed with me, digging inside the fridge. I sat far
away on the long table, placing my head in my hands to try and relax.
“Keera!” he said when he was finished rummaging around.
I took a few deep breaths with my head still down. Then I steeled myself
as I looked up.
“Hey, Tim,” I said, putting on a fake smile.
He still seemed to think we were besties even after I told him I didn’t
want anything else to do with him after we kissed once. And that kiss was
totally out of nowhere. We were in the storage room, and I wasn’t thinking
straight after the holiday Christmas party at work. Ever since that day,
