“Let’s fuck these niggas up, ladies. When they see they got beat by an allfemale team, they ain’t gon’ know what the fuck to do with themselves.”
“Hell, naw they won’t, Tiff. Let’s do this shit,” Jeralyn said.
We were about to compete in a relay at the Bill Picket Rodeo. I was the
last leg and Jeralyn was the first. Our friends, Willina and Kemah, were the
second and third legs. As I walked around, I felt eyes on me. There were a
lot of people in attendance, so for me to feel that, somebody was staring
hard. When I looked up, I met eyes with the smoothest nigga I had ever
seen. I’d been around some nice-looking men, but him… Jeeeezuuus Christ.
I’d seen him before and thought that chocolate skin was gonna have my
glucose levels reach new heights. He didn’t compete in the rodeos, but he
seemed to always be at one.

--- --- --- --- ---
When Legend shook his hand, I realized that was probably the cousin he
was talking about hooking me up with at Jasper’s barbershop a while ago.
Sweet Lord, he was fine as hell. I always thought Legend was fine, but
because he was friends with my older brother, Jasper, I didn’t wanna try to
talk to him. Then he met Harper and that was it. He was a special kind of
chocolate that knew how to satisfy a sweet tooth. But I wasn’t a home
wrecker. My body was heating up as I stared at who I assumed was his
cousin. After hearing someone clear their throat, I turned to see Storm and
Jasper. “Hey, y’all.”
They were both frowning. They acted like they were my damn
bodyguards. “Get yo’ head out the clouds,” Jasper said.
“And yo’ eyes off that nigga,” Storm added. “You got a buckle to win
tonight.”
I rolled my eyes. The way they policed me, I’d never get a family. Out
of the seven of us, I was the only one that wasn’t married. Nor did I have
any children, either. “I’m ready. Me and my girls already came together for
our pep talk and everything. I’m ‘bout to go saddle Terminator and kill the
competition.”
“A’ight, well let’s do this shit then. Stay focused. We going to the
stands,” Jasper said.
“Alright. See y’all later.”
When I turned to head to my horse, Legend was smiling at me, so I
waved. He waved back as the guy he was talking to winked at me. I gave
him a smirk and continued to my horse. “Girl, who is that?” Kemah asked
me.
“Shit, I don’t know, but hopefully, I’ll find out soon. You know I don’t
have a problem approaching him and telling him what this gon’ be.”
She laughed loudly. “I know, but something is telling me that he ain’t
gon’ go for that shit.”
