Becca
I hear the knock on the pool house door as I’m putting my lipstick on. I
check the mirror one more time and decide I look nice for my first girls’
night out since everything happened with Rand. Allie finally talked me into
it.
“Coming,” I holler out as I grab my purse and head for the front door.
I open it expecting to see Allie there but am shocked to see Jeff from
Barry instead.

“Hey, Jeff.”
He’s leaning against the doorjamb, looking down at me. He smiles,
dimple flashing. “Hey, Becs.” He holds up a couple of Baxley’s Bakery
bags and a box. “I brought your favorite sandwiches and some dessert. Can
I come in?”
“Sure, of course.” I step aside and let him pass.
He heads over to the kitchen island and sets everything down. “Do you
mind if I invite myself to stay for dinner?”
I smile at him. “I’d love that, actually.”
He crosses the room to give me a hug. “We have a lot to talk about
sweetheart.”
“We really do.” I restrain myself and give him a normal hug when what
I really want to do is snuggle into his hard body.
After a while of just holding each other, he pulls back a little and looks
down at me. “Becca,” he whispers, running his hand through my hair and
pushing it back over my shoulder. “I’ve missed you so much. I love my new
job, but they’re definitely keeping me busy.”
I want to stay in his arms forever and never let him go. I’ve been so
worried that he might not ever want to be with me after everything that’s
happened. “I’m just glad you’re here now, Jeff.”
“Me too.” He looks me over. “Are you going out, Becca?”
“Oh. Um, yeah. I told Allie I would go out to eat with her and Emma.
I’ll call her and tell her I can’t come.”
“I hate for you to do that, Becs. I should have called first. I guess I just
didn’t think you’d be going out much yet.”
“No, don’t worry about it. It’s just dinner. But the doctors cleared me a
while ago. I haven’t gone out because I was just really tired and emotionally
drained from doing the podcast.”
He gets a funny look on his face. “Right. The podcast.”
Does he not like that I did the podcast? I study his face.
He rubs a hand over his face. “Becca, I have to tell you some things…”
Myles bursts through the door without knocking. “Turn on the TV!
Turn on the TV!”
Jeff and I just gape at him as he runs past us, vaults over the back of the
couch, grabs the remote, and turns it on.
My parents come barreling through the door. “Have you heard the
news?” my dad gasps out.
“Oh, good, Jeff’s here,” Mom exclaims. She runs over and pretty much
knocks me out of his arms so she can hug him. “Isn’t this the best news?”
“What news? What’s going on?” I have to raise my voice to be heard.
“Shh! Be quiet, Becs. They’re talking about it now.” Myles is dancing
around with
excitement.
