“Carlee?” Eden could barely get her friend’s name out between sobs as
she held her cell phone close to her ear.
“Eden? What’s wrong? Where are you?” Carlee asked.
Eden stopped walking and looked around, sniffling. “I need help,” she
admitted reluctantly. “I’m scared.” She couldn’t stop shaking.
There was a shuffling sound, and then Carlee’s boyfriend was on the
phone. “Eden, honey, where are you?” Atlas asked.

--- --- --- --- ---
Tears streamed down her cheeks. “About a block from the diner, I
think.” A sob escaped. “I ran out. I think I went left. I wasn’t thinking.”
“Okay, honey, I’m sending someone to help you. His name is Gabriel
Marcos. Stay right where you are and keep talking to me,” he ordered.
Eden had met Atlas several times. She knew he was a good guy and
treated Carlee like spun gold. She also knew he was a member of the
Shadowridge Guardians MC.
Before Carlee had started dating Atlas, Eden had always been a bit
nervous when members of the Shadowridge Guardians came into the diner.
She’d since realized they were some of the best guys on the planet.
“Eden?” Atlas prodded. “Are you with me, honey?”
“Y-yes, Sir.”
“Good girl. Keep talking to me.”
“Is G-Gabriel one of your, uh, brothers?” Is that what they call each
other?
“He sure is, honey. He’s a super good guy. I promise.”
“O-okay.” She sniffled again as she hugged herself. She was still
wearing her apron. She hadn’t even stopped to grab her purse before she’d
run out of the diner.
“I can hear the motorcycle engine through the phone, honey. He’s
almost there.”
Eden realized he was right. She was glad he was still talking to her. The
approaching motorcycle might have scared her otherwise. Sure enough, it
was coming into view from her left.
“H-he’s here,” she muttered as the motorcycle pulled to a stop.
“Okay, honey. Let Gabriel help you.”
The man who parked alongside her kicked out the stand, rose from the
bike, and pulled his helmet off in seconds. He rushed over to her. “Eden?”
She wanted to stop crying, but she couldn’t. More tears fell. She was
trembling so badly she almost dropped her phone.
The tall man gently took the cell from her and spoke into it. “I’ve got
her, Atlas.” He ended the call and pocketed the phone before squatting in
front of her. “You’re safe, Eden. Can you tell me what happened?”
Suddenly, she felt stupid. Maybe she’d overreacted. She started crying
harder now. “I-I d-didn’t know w-what to d-do. I’m sorry.” She swiped at
the tears, trying to banish them, but more kept coming.
“You did the right thing, Little one. You called for help.”
“I’m s-sorry to be a b-bother.”
“No reason to be sorry.” He rose to his full height, turned around, and
opened the saddlebag on his bike. A moment later, he held out a cute, fluffy,
brown teddy bear. “How about you hold this little fellow for me? I bet he’ll
make you feel better.”
