HAWK
“Ready to get your ass beat in the ring?”
Angel rolled his eyes as he continued taping up his hands. “You talk a
lot of shit for a guy who got his ass handed to him the last time we were in
the ring.”
Hawk shrugged. “You got me on a bad day. It was a one-off. You’re
normally the one crying in your drink afterward.”
It actually wasn’t really a one-off. The two of them matched up well in
fighting and, more times than not, their sparring sessions ended in both of
them dripping with sweat and calling it quits before they decided who’d
won. Otherwise, they’d just keep going until they were flat on their backs in
the ring. They enjoyed talking shit to each other the entire time, though.
Brotherly love and all that. At least, that’s what it was for them.
“We’ll see who’s crying in their drink after we’re done,” Angel smirked.
“Maybe you two should stop talking shit to one another like a bunch of
chickens and actually fight,” Emma said as she walked past them with a
bunch of clean, folded towels in her arms.
Emma was their brother Beau’s woman and Little girl. She worked at
the gym with Beau, and Hawk had a bit of a soft spot for her. She was sweet
and good to his brother and after he’d pulled her out of Beau’s saferoom
when their house had been invaded, the two of them had a special kind of
bond. Not that he’d ever let on that he had a soft spot for her. “I’m telling
Beau you cursed, brat.”
She stopped and glared at him, her mouth hanging open just slightly.
He grinned. “I know you were part of that whole truck-painting prank.
Payback’s a you know what, isn’t it?”
Angel stood back, grinning at them both.
Emma scoffed. “Well, I sort of felt bad for being part of it but since
you’re being a big meanie head, I don’t feel bad anymore.”
Hawk raised one of his eyebrows. “We’ll see how bad you feel when
you’re getting your butt spanked for saying naughty words.”
Emma gasped and then settled her free hand on her hip. “You know,
Uncle Hawk, I’m starting to agree with the other girls about you needing to
find a dog or a woman or some pussy or something to make you less
grumpy.”
“Emma!” he scolded.
Angel burst out laughing this time. “I don’t think any woman would
want his grumpy ass, sweetheart. The only pussy he’s getting is when his
hand is wrapped—”
“Angel!” he barked.
Emma’s entire body shook as she giggled. “I always knew I loved you,
Uncle Angel. Bye, Uncle Angel. Bye, big meanie butt head.”
And with that, she stuck her tongue out at Hawk and scurried away
giggling. Little brat.
Angel got into the ring and shrugged. “She’s right, you know. It seems
like you are getting grumpier by the day.”
