CELESTE
“Ah! Yes! Go faster! Mmm.”
I clutch my pillow over my ear and groan. Those inhuman
sounds have been going on for the past thirty minutes. Usually, I
would ignore them, but it’s four in the morning and I really need to sleep. It
seems my roommate and her boyfriend or fuck of the week have no regard
for the time. I’m this close to walking into that room and dousing them both
with a bucket of ice water. I’d like to see if they’re still able to get it up after
that.

Finally, the noise stops and I’m able to get some peace and quiet. I roll
onto my back on the bed and stare up at the ceiling of my room, praying for
sleep. More than anything, I want my own house. A place that’s just for me.
I’m an only child, and before college, I had my own space, but that hasn’t
been the case ever since. I’ve had to deal with roommates and all the
problems that come with sharing the same space with another human being
for years now.
It isn’t like I abhor my current roommate, but let’s be honest. She
deserves jail time for waking up at 3 a.m. and deciding that was an
appropriate time to fuck.
By the time I open my eyes, it’s early morning. The sun is shining
through my open window and it’s time for me to get up, despite only sleeping
about three hours last night. I stretch for a few seconds before getting to my
feet and hurriedly making my bed. Assuming I eventually get a boyfriend or
a husband, which is unlikely, I already feel bad for them. I’m the worst kind
of sleeper. I move around a lot and I’m pretty sure I snore. All my former
boyfriends have said so.
I step out into the small living room, running my hands through my
tangled dark hair. I head straight for the coffee maker and brew myself
something to help me get through the rest of the day. Sifting through the
emails on my phone, I check to see if any of the applications I sent out a few
days ago have received a reply.
It’s while I’m preparing some breakfast that my roommate walks into the
kitchen.
Calen Bronx is a slim redhead with a gorgeous smile and pretty green
eyes. She also has an affinity for theatre and hopes to be the next Barbara
Streisand—a dream that is almost painfully impossible considering she can’t
sing for shit. She’s a great actress, though, and someone who has helped me
through the last year of my life.
