I sit in front of the judge’s desk that had been set up in the living
room of a small apartment where it seemed the fucker liked to operate his
less-than-reputable side of his life. He’d been married for thirty years, a
twenty-five-year judge with one daughter who is twenty-six years old, and a
total fucking bimbo, so I heard, but not that it mattered to me. I had no
interest in that area of my life. I ruled everything around me with an icy steel
band around my soul.
Shaw wastes my time while thinking about how he will toss out his
proposition. I’ve met many men like him in my life. They want something,
and yet they still want to show face, requesting meetings in private places
while sounding like little pussies as they work up the nerve to speak. “So, I
believe we could help each other out, Mr. Romanov. You have your hands in
many properties in the city, and I have one available that would be something
right up your alley.”
“Why would you bring it to my attention, Judge Shaw?” I question,
making my suspicion clear.
“Because I have a problem that I need help with.” There it is. He
needs my expertise to do the dirty work. I’ve had the area swept before we
arrived, and my men had the judge frisked before I arrived. His men had me
searched for weapons, not that I’d need them. I could easily snap his neck,
but I have no need to spend time in jail for nothing. I’d wait, biding my time
for a good year at the very least, and make his death look like an accident or a
medical issue. There would be no sense in drawing the heat on me.
Suddenly, the front door opens behind me.
Assuming it’s one of my men, I’m surprised to hear the clicking of heels. I whip my head to find a
petite young woman with golden brown hair in a sundress and a light brown
fall jacket closing the front door. She didn’t notice me yet as she slipped off
the jacket, hanging it on the coat rack. She sets down her bag on the foyer
table and tosses her key in the bowl next to her bag.
