I wasn’t usually one to get caught up on things like the way a man walked,
but it was hard not to notice that Dux, tribute of the Valen Cune walked
with some very real big dick energy. It was enough to make even someone
like me––who was completely obsessed with revenge and usually not much
of a horndog––stop and take notice.

--- --- --- --- ---
Even on the dark, deserted streets of Balsam Falls, Minnesota, at two in
the morning on a Wednesday, he walked like he had important places to be,
and if I was even a little honest with myself, it was sexy as fuck.
“You can come out. I know you’re following me,” Dux growled, glaring
in my general direction, and I smiled into the darkness, wondering if he
could actually see me.
Pulling away from the building I’d been walking next to, staying in the
shadows, I stepped into his path, smirking. “Thank God. I was wondering
how long we were going to play this game. You’ve known I was there for
four blocks. What took you so damn long?”
The only sign he heard any of that was a slight raise of an eyebrow as
he looked me over. “What do you want?”
I didn’t shiver. I was not a shiverer. I absolutely refused to shiver, but I
did pause for a moment to let myself enjoy the way his voice felt on my
skin, and the way his eyes once-again burned a path over my body.
Did that mean he liked what he saw? Not that I cared. I was on a
mission, and drooling over Dux would be nothing but a distraction.
“Information.”
He frowned slightly, tilting his head. “About?”
“A dragon.”
There were no visual signs that my comment struck any chords with
him, but the air around us stilled significantly, letting me know I definitely
had. “Dragon?” he asked only after a brief moment, his voice even more of
a rumble than it had been before.
Stepping closer, I purposely stopped just out of range, just in case he
decided to try to kill me right there rather than finish this conversation.
“Mmhmm.”
“Like… a bearded dragon?”
I sighed, rolling my eyes. “Oh, yay. Another game.” Taking advantage
of the fact that he thought I was a weak, defenseless human, I reached out
quickly, gripping his wrist and jerking, using it to draw us closer, before
tucking my foot behind his feet and shoving backward until we both fell to
the ground, me on top of and straddling him, with a very sharp knife tucked
nicely under his chin. “I know you’re a dragon, Puff. I also know that you’re
the leader of the cune right outside Balsam Falls.”
