The Curse of Eternity is an action-packed urban fantasy with a compelling hook: Maria Harker, a recovering addict and vampire hunter descended from Van Helsing, is torn between fulfilling the legacy she never asked for and pursuing her own path. Her world is already dangerous from the get go, but when she fails to kill a suave, polite vampire who claims he doesn’t feed on humans, Maria’s moral compass—and her rules—start to wobble. The mixture of family expectations, supernatural lore, and personal demons gives the story both teeth and heart.
What stands out most is the way the author builds tension between Maria and Drake, the vampire who both challenges her beliefs and ignites something forbidden. Their relationship isn’t built on perfect trust—far from it—but on moments of vulnerability, reluctant alliance, and hard-fought decisions. Maria’s anxieties and history don’t feel tacked on, but integral: her flaws make her relatable, especially in contrast to traditional vampire hunter heroes who seem too sure of themselves. Equally, Drake’s depth (morality, restraint, guilt) helps avoid the cliché of “the bad vampire who becomes good for love.”
On the downside, there are moments when some tropes are very familiar—vampire lore, forbidden romance, family legacy burdens—but the author often leans into them with enough fresh detail (setting, ancillary supernatural politics, internal character conflict) to keep things engaging rather than derivative. The fight scenes are vivid, and the pacing holds up well; however, the romance can feel a little quick in parts, especially with how stakes escalate once everything kicks into gear. Overall though, The Curse of Eternity is a strong debut that balances darkness, action, and romance, and it leaves me eager to see how the series develops.
