Again!” I didn’t give Winter a chance to react before I was
throwing a right hook at him.
He easily deflected it, a frown crossing his face.
“What?” I gasped as sweat trickled down my temple. I faked left then
came at him with an uppercut from the other side, but I was slowing down
after two hours. He saw it coming from a mile away.
He merely sidestepped, and I tumbled forward. If it wasn’t for his
calloused hands catching my arms and pulling me against his broad, bare
chest I would’ve face planted.
“Take a breather,” he urged, his breath hot on my back. We both stood
panting, and the feel of his body had my mind spinning with a whole other
work out.

No. I shook my head, both to him and myself. I couldn’t afford it.
It had been months since I first infiltrated the house and secreted a key
through a door on orders from CSON, the organization I worked for at the
time. Central Security of Nations was associated with the US military. It
was another branch I had never heard of until they poached me from the
Army. What I didn’t know at the time, and had no way of ever expecting,
was that the house I’d been guarding for years was occupied by four meltin-your-mouth guys with powers over the seasons, and the house had doors
to anywhere and everywhere in the world.
Over time, I realized that CSON had a difficult relationship with their
charges. The guys paid CSON for protection, but CSON was going about it
in an odd way. They had wanted me to lure Winter close to the
compromised door, saying they wanted to help him control his powers
better, but at the last moment I changed my mind. A good thing too. They
took me instead and after experiencing their ‘help’, I was no longer happy
to blindly follow their orders.
I shot my elbow backward, and even though I hit a plane of hard
muscle, Winter grunted. I smirked in triumph as I wheeled out of his grip.
His striking blue eyes crackled with promised retaliation, and I welcomed
it.
“Come on, Winter,” I goaded him. “You’re really gonna let me one up
you like that?”
He opened his mouth, right foot shifting, which was his tell he was
about to make a move when we were interrupted.
“Dios mio. You’re still down here?” Summer waltzed in like he owned
the place, loosening the tie around his neck.
My gaze lingered on the red fabric, and he smirked, no doubt from the
same reminder of how he had tied up my hands with it earlier this morning.
Ever since my admittance of sliding a key under a door for CSON, he had
been more domineering than usual. Although, I could still see the
unanswered promise of punishment in his steely eyes.
“Mariposa,” he said, the roll of his ‘r’ taunting me, “when was the last
time you drank water?”
