“STOP HIM!” QUINN gasped, bolting upright, only to realize she
wasn’t going up in flames amid standing stones but had dozed off on
one of the enormous tan leather sofas in her rental’s spacious living
room.
“Hey, there,” her friend Zoey said gently, eyeing her with concern from
where she sat beside her. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” she managed and sighed, then frowned and shook her head.

“And no. Not at all.”
“You dreamt about him again, didn’t you?” Zoey tucked a silky lock of
blue-black hair behind her ear and narrowed her thickly lashed, exotic
turquoise eyes with concern. “The Viking they call Rafe?”
“I did.” She swallowed hard against bouts of nausea and tried to lose the
feeling of going up in flames. “The same dream that makes me certain he’s
up to no good.
He betrayed not just me but others in another life.”
Because she knew without a doubt her nightmare was from a previous
life she and her friends seemed to have shared. A backstory, as it were, that
revealed their lives had been intertwined with these tenth-century Viking
dragons for some time, whether they initially remembered it or not.
“Did you actually see Rafe this time?” Zoey wondered. “Did he come
through clearly?” Her gaze swept over the room, and she pushed up the
sleeves of her roomy black cashmere sweater as if the topic of how Quinn
saw things around here overheated her. “As clearly as what you see on these
walls?”
“No,” she said softly, eyeing the room warily yet again. Like her friends
Keira and Athena before her, the décor she eyed was different than what
everyone else saw. In her friends’ case, they were things connecting them
with the medieval Viking dragon they ended up with. Their fated mates, as
it were.
In Quinn’s case, she could only pray it meant the opposite.
“So when you look around, you still see the inside of what they call the
Keep in tenth-century Norway? The castle of dragons?” Zoey said. “A place
that could only connect you with Rafe’s cousin, Zane? The same décor that
makes you trust him when I hear he could very well be the bad guy?”
“Yes, I still see the Keep.” She took in the tall spire that rose high into
the sky where a normal ceiling should exist. Saw the ornately carved
dragons roaring out from the stone around the hearth.
Felt the terrifying fire
sizzling all around her in too many dragons to count. “And yes, I still think
our friends who have traveled back in time should trust Zane, not Rafe.”
Even saying Rafe’s name filled her with unease. She had only ever seen
his fiery dragon eyes once in another life but knew he was trouble. Not
what he seemed. Nowhere near it.
“Zane, the brute who is the epitome of everything you hate,” Savannah
reminded, sitting down across from them with a teeming glass of red wine.
Having lost her expensive, finely pressed pantsuit, she now wore equally
pricey sweatpants with a perfectly fitted white t-shirt that showed off her
flawless Brazilian skin. She perked one finely arched brow at Quinn.
