Maniac:
Well, we were here. Shadow had come through with the name and
number of the person who ran the Fortress of Bravery youth program. Reaper
and Cheyenne had met with the woman, someone named Lark Provan. I’d
planned to go with them to the meeting, but an issue at the car wash had
prevented me from going. When they returned, Reaper told us how impressed
he was with Ms. Provan and what she had going on at the program. He
definitely wanted us to volunteer our time and help them with funding as
needed.

As part of the meeting, they hadn’t mentioned us wanting to possibly
recruit future prospects from there. That would’ve been the guaranteed way
to stop all discussions before they ever got started. Ms. Provan had seemed
hesitant at first when she met with them, according to Reaper. Cheyenne’s
presence had put her at ease. The fact Reaper was a decorated former Navy
SEAL and Cheyenne worked for a respected doctor in the community had
helped.
They explained all the businesses we had around Bristol and the
charity events we participated in. She seemed to be impressed and excited
about those. In the end, after a lengthy discussion, she’d agreed to have us
come visit to see the program on a Saturday, when they had the most kids
there. We would meet them, get a sense of the place and the kids, and she
could see how we interacted with them. Joining us would be Annie. When
she heard from Alisse and Chey where we were going, she’d been excited to
join us. Her diner was a place they might benefit from and she’d benefit from
helping them, too.
It was kind of funny to see the looks on the kids’ faces when we
arrived. I guess it wasn’t every day they had a mass of men in leather cuts,
who rode motorcycles, walking through the doors. It was evident from the
outside and inside that the place was run down, but you could see that efforts
had been made to ensure it was clean and safe. The walls might need paint
and the furniture was all secondhand, but it was a place that was safe and
homey for them. Everyone stopped and stared at us. Some of them, the
smaller ones, hid.
