He asked. She refused. Then he forgot.
At Hunsford, Mr. Darcy makes the worst proposal in the history of the Church of England, and Elizabeth Bennet tells him exactly what she thinks of it. He is, she informs him, the last man in the world she could ever be prevailed upon to marry.
The next morning she finds him lying senseless in the lane, thrown from his horse, with a sealed letter in his coat addressed to her.
When Darcy wakes, he has lost an entire day. He remembers walking to the parsonage to propose. He does not remember her answer. And he is perfectly, blissfully certain she said yes.
The anxious apothecary warns that any shock could do him lasting harm. So Elizabeth says nothing. Just for a fortnight. Just until he is well.
But a fortnight becomes six weeks. Lady Catherine summons doctors armed with leeches, Mr. Collins cannot decide whether to rejoice or despair, and Anne de Bourgh discovers the joys of disobedience. And Darcy, freed from the pride that has always held him back, turns out to be warm, funny and impossible not to love. Every day Elizabeth falls a little harder. Every day the lie grows heavier.
Because sooner or later, Mr. Darcy is going to remember.
Mr. Darcy Forgot I Said No is a sweet, standalone Pride and Prejudice variation full of humor and heart, told from both Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s points of view, with a guaranteed happy ending.
