Teal blue water laps the white sandy beach. A man stands at the
shoreline, the warm sun reflecting off his aviator sunglasses and making his
tanned skin glow like a Greek god. His glasses hold the hue of the sky and
the sea in a tender embrace. The man jumps effortlessly into the air to catch
a Frisbee. His body was made to be ridden all night. He has abs of steel, and
V cuts above his swim trunks—he’s an entire meal. I can’t pull my eyes
from his chiseled chin. I crave a man’s touch because it’s been so long since
I was with anyone. I never dated much. My college days were spent
studying, and the men came and went faster than a toilet paper roll.

--- --- --- --- ---
There was no time for a social life between nursing school and working
part-time to afford it. Now that nursing school is over, I want to make up for
lost time, and if it means indulging in meaningless sex and drinking too
many cocktails—I’m in. Now, I want to kick up my heels and live the life of
any other twenty-three-year-old.
My eyes drink in the stranger. He’s magnificent. I wouldn’t be surprised
if he said he’s a surfer. He’s handsome, and his tanned torso mocks me. I’m
convinced his body was made by the devil to lure me to hell. I’d willingly
go to hell if a night with him gave me a memory I’d treasure forever.
I walk through the shallow waves as the warm water gently washes over
the top of my feet. I pause to dig my toes into the soft sand, turn my face to
the sun, and close my eyes, letting its evanescent warmth kiss me. When I
return to St. Louis, I’ll have an enviable tan. I’m so engrossed in my
thoughts about getting lucky on vacation that I’m oblivious to the men
chasing the Frisbee, and then it happens.
One of them brushes against me, knocking me off balance, and I fall
butt-first into the sand. I didn’t see it coming. I roll onto my back to cushion
the fall. The handsome devil passes me, catching the Frisbee.
With the yellow disc in one hand, he approaches, leans over, and offers
his other hand to help. “I’m so sorry,” he says. His words are like sugar,
naturally sweet without the guise of a syrupy pretense. Taking his large
hand, I notice his thin, long fingers. I love a man with nice hands. I’m
unprepared for the instantaneous physical attraction that follows. I can’t
deny the chemistry I feel for him.
His light brown hair is slicked back, and the glow and smile on his face
make him gorgeous enough to be on the cover of GQ magazine.
He flexes his arm, and it acts as a lever, pulling me up and into his
broad chest. I find myself nose to nose, staring into hazel eyes that are
greener than brown in color.
Time stands still. Was it a second? Three seconds? Or a minute? My
boobs are smashed against his hard pecs. I feel my nipples turning hard
against the thin fabric of my bikini. I’m sure he is aware of my body.
